Exhibtion: Don’t Touch @ Red Head Gallery
I was delighted to be included in an exhibition curated by fellow Harbourfront textile studio artist-in-residence Marianne Burlew at Red Head Gallery. The premise of the show was interesting- a series of collaborations between Burlew and 12 artists whose work inspires a physical response. Exhibition: Studious @ Harbourfront Centre
This week I was back in Toronto at a place that feels like home- Harboufront Centre. From 2007-2010 I was an artist-in-residence and for the exhibition Studious curated by Melanie Egan and Patrick Macaulay, I was invited back to exhibit with current residents and other alumni like me. It was very exciting to be back at Harboufront Centre and to see some friends that also worked in the studio like artist Patrycja Zwierzynska who was in the metals studio when I was a resident. Our works were next to each other in the show and I think they made a great pair. It was also exciting to see my piece Black Cloud on the front cover and interior spread of the Toronto Design Offsite brochure.
Studio: Digital Embroidery Close-Ups
For the past little while I have been using the Digital Embroidery machine to create some tests and samples. The results have been exciting and what I like are some of these close-up views of the threads and stitches within each piece.
Residency: Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts Fibers Tactility Forum
Early in January I was offered the opportunity to attend Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg Tennessee for a week long forum. The forum had an open format where the 12 artists who also work with textiles and fiber materials would work in the studio and talk about our work. The studio was great and it was awesome to have some time working alongside other artists. I worked on drawings, collages and some coiled forms.
