For the summer of 2021, Harbourfront Centre commissioned me to design a floor mural to animate their site right by Lake Ontario. Inspired by Spirographs, the space invites visitors to sit and enjoy the lake view in this colourful setting.
I am interested in the relationship of these radial patterns to the drawing toy I grew up with along with their connections to similar patterns found in nature and textile processes. In this work I hope to create a playful environment filled with colour and line.
This mural was painted with big rollers and brushes, which mimics the way I designed the work with watercolours and big brushes on paper. You can see a bit of my design process here- from watercolours on paper to a digital rendering to the final work.
This is a temporary mural that will be up for the summer of 2021.
