Exhibition and Opening: Dark Matter: Amanda McCavour and Terrence Boyd @ The Craft Alliance, St. Louis, MO

My piece Black Cloud is up right now in St. Louis at The Craft Alliance alongside the work of Terry M. Boyd! I’m very happy to have this installation up  in the beautiful gallery space and enjoyed my time installing all week with lots of amazing help.  The piece grew and took over a large part of the gallery allowing for visitors to walk underneath.

The Transversal Project also presented and event at the gallery called Altered States featuring curated video projections in the Delmar gallery. These projections were put on and around the artworks in the exhibition adding another element to the exhibition for one night only.

Here is a statement written about the exhibition by curator Stefanie Kirkland:

Dark Matter  features the work of Amanda McCavour and Terry M. Boyd, both of whom expressively use fiber to express emotion and push the boundaries of contemporary fiber art. This exhibition explores the more solemn and introverted emotional states, revealing and reveling in a darker side of our everyday consciousness.

McCavour constructs Black Cloud out of various papers and yarns, creating a dark yet elegant form. The Cloud fills the room, so viewers will be able to interact with the artwork on an intimate level, peeking through it, looking up into it and walking around it.

Paired with McCavour’s Black Cloud is Terry M. Boyd’s aggressive and expressive embroidery. Boyd’s 2-dimensional hand sewn pieces are predominantly mono-chromatic works that explore memory and provoke thoughts of vast spaces and abstract landscapes.
