Studio: “Mobile Studio Tour” with the Subtle Technologies Festival and Craft Ontario

This weekend I was one of 3 artists who shared their space with about 20 visitors as a part of the Subtle Technologies Festival‘s first ever traveling event.  The aim of this tour was to showcase makers experimenting with fibre-based practices. All the participants travelled by charter bus around the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area to visit our 3 studios.  Thanks so much to Craft Ontario and the Subtle Technologies Festival for including me in this event!

All hosting artists are members of Craft Ontario who balance handcraft and traditional textile processes with emergent technologies. Line Dufour of Holland Landing was the first stop on the trip showcasing her weaving with fibre optics.  I was the second stop on the trip where I did some demonstrations with my new Bernina 780 digital embroidery machine and water-soluble fabric.  Thea Haines was the third stop on the trip and she shared her knowledge of mixing and applying plant-based dyes.

Here are some pictures from my part of the tour. I’m currently working on lots of samples and tests combining digital embroidery with water soluble stabilizer!
